List of Job Websites from A-Z for Unemployed Veterans, Spouses, and Family

Know of a veteran looking for a job?  This list of 100+ job websites may help them target their employment search.  If anyone reading has a favorite job or employment website that is not listed below, please send me the link by posting a comment at the bottom of this page.  I promise to add it promptly.

  1. AARP Jobs:  jobs.AARP.org   offers information and advise on job search and lists available jobs for individuals who are over 50 years of age.
  2. America’s Career InfoNet.org:  acinet.org
  3. American Evaluation Association: eval.org  AEA maintains both job and resume banks as a service to the evaluation profession. Use of the Career Center is free for viewing.

  6. Ask the Headhunter:   asktheheadhunter.com offers weekly quality counsel on the various aspects of career management and job search.

  10. Avuecentral.comavuecentral.com  is a commercial site that lists many government positions.

  13. Careercast:  careercast.com is another relatively new resource for job seekers that covers the basic areas of job search: resumes, cover letters, negotiations, etc.

  15. CareerOneStop:  careeronestop.org/jobseekertools.  The US Department of Labor’s employment site.  The Washington Post recently highlighted the site and posted the top-rated social media job search sites based on 16,000 reponses from job seekers, techies, unemployed and others.
  16. Career Test Center: careertest.net  Free tests that help you find a career.
  17. CareerXroads.com: careerxroads.com.  This site offers the viewer general and specific  information relative to search on the web.  Career and search sites are ranked, niche sites listed, and links to relevant articles are posted with a two week free viewing in full and downloading.
  18. Career fairs: careerfairs.com offers selection by state or career field in identifying scheduled career fairs.

  40. G.I. Jobs: gijobs.com. G.I. Jobs magazine is the premier publication for military transitioners. It provides education, transition assistance, and job opportunities for military and features a military to civilian pay calculator.

  43. GuideStar.org:  GuideStar.orgis the National Database of Nonprofit Organizations.  Outstanding  resource for financial information on nonprofits.

  46. Idealist.org: idealist.org. For the Academic and Non-Profit world.  Good for information on consulting as well as Career fairs and volunteer opportunities.
  47. Indeed.com: Indeed.com.   A helpful web site for the job seeker in looking at positions  by job title, key word(s) or by employer.  Can also sort the search by city, state and/or zip code.
  48. Inside Job Work:  insidejobwork.jobamatic.com/a/jobs/fina-jobs  offers the job seeker the opportunity to key in a location, such as Washington, DC, and obtain a listing of vacancies within a specified radius.

  50. International Association of Business Communicators  iabc.com     This Site offers free access and you can receive e-mail job notifications for free as well as advertising  jobs.  There are also links to the companies with Jobs in PR, Marketing, Communications and  academia.

  55. Jobster.com:   Jobster.com.  Jobster offers its own search engine to match resumes to existing posted vacancies.   Saves job searcher time and effort.
  56. Journalism Jobs:   journalismjobs.comoffers free access and search by job, location or schedule, some Career fair and conference information and Public Affairs opportunities.  Affiliated with the Columbia Journalism Review.

  70. NicheJobs.comnichejobs.com.  Complementary site to one listed immediately above. Offers 2000+ URL and boards for the job seeker throughout the US.
  71. Nonprofit Career Networknonprofitcareer.com.  Lists jobs and career fairs across the country.  Hyperlinks to other NPO websites.  Free access.
  72. Ohio Veterans:   ohiovetscan.com.  If you want veteran-friendly employers to find you in Ohio, take a few minutes to create an account and post your resume. There is no cost.
  73. Onetcenter.orgonetcenter.org offers a good resource for job seekers on a large number of  areas from salary to jobs to links to other useful sites such as the US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics and it large data base of employment statistics located at: bls.gov.

  85. Simply Hired: simplyhired.com.  A relatively new entry that offers a strong search engine  that allows the job searcher to enter a location, a job title, or any combination.  Most all career fields are covered.    Searches start with a 25 mile radius but can be modified.

The site, which is sponsored by AMVETS Career Center, is free for both veteran and employer. AMVETS Career Center provides free career assistance for veterans and their familes in twelve states.

For a comprehensive listing of legitimate job site that have been vetted, go to VetJobs (wwww.vetjobs.com) and in the Employment Assistance section you will find four lists: Niche Job Board Sites (by occupation), State Job Board Sites (by geography), Comprehensive Job Board Sites and Aggregator Job Board Sites.
